Swimmers celebrate win double

OLDHAM ASC had fine wins against Royton and Howe Bridge Aces in the Central Lancashire Intermediate League at Oldham Sports Stadium.

Each two-lengths race featured two swimmers from each age group.

In the fixture against Howe Bridge, there was a hat-trick of wins for Kyle Clegg in the 11-years events.

Kyle won the butterfly, breaststroke and relay races, while team-mates Dylan Arzoni and Michael Entwistle were second in the butterfly and backstroke.

For the girls, Olivia Askew won the freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke races, while Sara Loft was runner-up in the freestyle and butterfly and Kiandra Basnett finished second in the breaststroke.

Peter Cunningham claimed victory in the 13-years backstroke and second in the breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly.

And Jessica Fullalove scored a hat-trick of wins in the backstroke, freestyle and butterfly, plus second place in the breaststroke.

The 15-years section saw Harry Entwistle clinch a double in the breaststroke and freestyle and finish second in the butterfly.

Team-mate Ian Martin won the backstroke race, while Ash Ratchford landed the butterfly event and was runner-up in freestyle and backstroke.

Sophie Kenny enjoyed a hat-trick of wins in the butterfly, backstroke and freestyle events.

Oldham were dominant in the relays, winning eight of the 13 events.

The 11-years team of Natasha Sabel, Kiandra Basnett, Olivia Askew and Sara Loft won the medley relay, while Georgia Cain replaced Kiandra in the freestyle event which also produced a victory.

Sammy Ireland, Kyle Clegg, Dylan Arzoni and Michael Entwistle won both the medley and freestyle relays.

Sammy Marsden, Joe Knight, Hayden Saville and Peter Cunningham were victorious in 13-years freestyle, while Ian Martin, Damien Bradley, Ash Ratchford and Harry Entwistle clinched the 15-years freestyle and medley and the girls team of Helen Richards, Jessica Fullalove, Hannah Clegg and Sophie Kenny won the freestyle.

The final event of the evening was the cannon relay in which two swimmers from each age group competed.

This also went the way of Oldham thanks to the swims of Kyle Clegg, Olivia Askew, Jessica Fullalove, Peter Cunningham, Sophie Kenny and Ash Ratchford.

Final score: Oldham 175, Howe Bridge Aces 143.

OLIVIA Askew won all four of her 11-years section events – freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke – in the gala against Royton SC.

In the same age group, Kyle Clegg registered a hat-trick of wins in the freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke.

Jessica Fullalove won the breaststroke and backstroke events in the 13-years section and was runner-up in butterfly and freestyle.

In the 15-years group, Sophie Kenny had wins in the freestyle, butterfly and backstroke.

Ash Ratchford won the butterfly race and was runner-up in backstroke and freestyle.

Ian Martin was first in the backstroke and second in the breaststroke, while Harry Entwistle won the freestyle and was second in the butterfly.

Once more, Oldham dominated the relays, winning 10 of the 13 events.

Natasha Sabel, Kiandra Basnett, Olivia Askew and Sara Loft won the medley, and Oldham also claimed victory in the freestyle relay in which Georgia Cain replaced Kiandra.

In the 13-years section, Bethany Peak, Rebecca Lewis, Jessica Fullalove and Caitlin Wareing won the medley and freestyle.

Ian Martin, Damien Bradley, Ash Ratchford and Harry Entwistle landed a double in the 15-years medley and freestyle events, while the girls team of Helen Richards, Jessica Fullalove, Hannah Clegg and Sophie Kenny claimed victory in the freestyle.

Kyle Clegg, Olivia Askew, Peter Cunningham, Jessica Fullalove, Ash Ratchford and Sophie Kenny rounded off the night in style with victory in the cannon relay.
