CROMPTON and Royton have been nominated to represent Lancashire in the club-of-the-year awards.

It comes in the wake of the High Barn club being granted GolfMark status.

Not only that, but Crompton and Royton’s sterling work earned them GolfMark’s high-achiever award.

They are one of only three clubs in Lancashire to receive this accolade for the facilities they provide for golfers of all ages. They join Royal Birkdale and Accrington, who are the two other recipients.

Of the 1,900 golf clubs in England, only 200 have received GolfMark accreditation with just 20 of these from Lancashire.

“It is like having a gold star as the standards we have reached are above those needed for GolfMark,” explained Crompton and Royton’s Marjorie Bray.

GolfMark looks at various areas – coaching and playing, the club environment, child protection and duty of care.

Crompton and Royton have been working extremely hard developing junior and beginners sections.

Assistant professional Martin Beaty has formed a ‘kidz’ section for boys and girls under the age of 10, while older youngsters have taken part in the Golf Foundation Junior Golf Passport.

Beaty, Bray, Andrew Bottomley and Ian Whittaker are the four people at the club who have worked tirelessly for the last 12 months to enable them to get GolfMark status which integrates Sport England’s ClubMark.

“Achieving GolfMark is a tremendous accolade for the club and testament to the hard work we have put into the development of our juniors and beginners,” explained club captain John Truelove,
