Thorburn in town

HILLBILLIES Snooker Club has landed a major coup by acquiring the services for a night of Canada’s Cliff Thorburn.

The 1980 Embassy World Champion will forever be remembered as the first player to record a maximum 147 during the 1983 championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

His feat was captured live by the BBC and came against one of his greatest rivals, Terry Griffiths.

Thorburn still lives in Canada, but is coming over to England later this month for a holiday.
And one of his close friends, snooker coach and referee Paul Rinaldi, suggested he might perform a couple of exhibitions while over here.

Rinaldi also happens to be a friend of Hillbillies owner Graham Johnson, so the deal was done for Thorburn to appear at the club on Saturday, October 24.

All those attending will have tickets placed in a draw and Thorburn will play frames against four or five whose number are pulled out.

He will also take on other players who make successful bids in an auction.

And to bring some light-hearted entertainment to proceedings, Thorburn will perform a number of trick shots from his vast repertoire.

Tickets, available on the door, cost £10 and the cover price includes a buffet.
