Barnes hat-trick puts Avro on high
Date published: 08 October 2009
AVRO are handily placed in the premier division of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League premier division.
Rob Fuller’s side sit third — the leading local outfit in the top-flight — after a comfortable 4-0 defeat of Old Alts.
Mike Barnes hit a hat-trick and Jacob Brown got the other goal for Avro, who swapped places with Hollinwood as a result of their seventh win of the season.
Hollinwood have lost two of their 11 games this season — and both defeats have been inflicted by Dukinfield Town.
Paul Bennett’s boys, who went down 4-1 at home, were soon on the back foot with their opponents scoring twice before the break.
Town added two more to their tally in the second half, before Anthony Robinson scored a consolation goal .
Royton Town were unable to follow up their excellent derby-day defeat of Springhead as they were beaten 3-2 by Stockport Georgians.
Playing with the wind at their backs in the first half, Town created four good chances but couldn’t convert any of them.
But they did break the deadlock a minute after the restart when Wayne Dean got the final touch to a free-kick.
Georgians hit back to level before going in front from the penalty spot after Jamie Peers was adjudged to have handled.
Town had a great chance to equalise six minutes from time, but Michael Moss saw his spot-kick saved, and moments later they fell 3-1 behind.
Fraser Hatton did reduce the arrears late on, but it was too little too late.
