Last-gasp Tate on target for Hulmeians
Date published: 08 October 2009
DANNY TATE struck the winner for Oldham Hulmeians as they triumphed 4-3 at Bury GSOB reserves in division two of the Lancashire Amateur League.
Hulmeians looked set for a comfortable victory after Scott Coogan (two, including a penalty) and Chris Hadfield gave them a 3-0 half-time lead.
But the home side wiped out that advantage with a three-goal salvo within 25 minutes of the restart.
However, Tate’s opportunist strike ensured that Hulmeians went home with the points.
Chaddertonians reserves produced their worst performance of the season as they went down 5-1 at Bolton Ambassadors. Andrew Simpson scored the consolation goal.
In division one, Chadds’ first team overcame Old Mancunians 2-1 in an entertaining game at Failsworth.
CONDITIONS
A strong wind made for difficult conditions, but both sides played some good football, and it was Chadds who came from behind to clinch the points. Gary Pickup and Scott Owen got the goals.
Chadds ‘A’ lost 5-0 at home to Radcliffe Town reserves in division four, and a late flourish from Rossendale Amateurs ‘B’ denied Hulmeians reserves in division five.
The local side were leading 2-1 through Rob Christie and Gary Melia but two late goals saw the visitors win 3-2.
Chadds ‘B’ won 4-3 at Ashtonians reserves — Mark Flint, Adam Flint, Jason Bowes and Mike Duxbury scored for Chadds in the division six clash — while Hulmeians ‘A’ and Hulmeians ‘B’ shared the spoils in their division seven encounter.
Paul Hinchliffe’s brace for the thirds was cancelled out by Ross Pierce and Steve Byrom.
