Moore proves a point

SUPER-SUB Chris Moore struck three times in a 20-minute spell as Diggle overcame lowly Wooldale Wanderers 3-0 in division one of the Huddersfield and District League.

He had a point to prove after being a substitute in the first four games of the season — and made an instant impact when he came off the bench with a quarter of the game to go.

Wooldale were content to put 10 men behind the ball in a bid to frustrate Steve Southern’s side, and the plan worked until the introduction of Moore.

His first goal, stabbed home from close range after good wing play from Wayne Broadbent, was followed by a superb individual effort.

And when Diggle were awarded a penalty, there was only one man in the frame to take it, Moore (pictured left) making no mistake to complete his treble.

Uppermill’s struggles continued as they went down 4-1 to Heywood Irish Centre. James Thompson scored the consolation goal.

Heyside, meanwhile, hit the perfect dozen in division four as they swept aside newcomers Sport Together FC 12-1 to carry on their early-season promise.

Three goals to the good early on, they allowed their opponents to reduce the deficit, only to score four more times before the break.

There was no let up in the second period as Heyside beat Sport Together’s offside trap at will.

James Taylor and Joe Mannion notched hat-tricks, Danny Cashin and Carl Winstanley bagged a brace apiece, with Chris Raynor and Nick Campbell getting the others.

Diggle’s second team maintained their 100-per-cent start to the season in reserve division one with a 7-2 win over Berry Brow. Matt Taylor got four of the goals.

But Diggle ‘A’ were disappointed at only drawing 2-2 draw at neighbours Uppermill ‘A’ in reserve division two.

A goal from Thomas Quinn shortly after the restart earned Heyside a 1-1 draw at Meltham ‘A’, who went ahead in the 10th minute.

In the Works League, Uppermill’s third team were beaten 4-2 by Sovereign Sports but the fifths, thanks to goals from Michael Taylor, Pete Collum and Si Poulter, defeated Grange Moor 3-2.
