MOSSLEY continued their fine run by defeating Bedworth United 5-2 at Seel Park in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy.

It was the Lilywhites’ fourth straight victory as their season has turned around dramatically after a disappointing start.

Mossley established a 2-0 half-time lead with goals from Karl Brown and Steven Moore, but it was not until the final half-hour that they sealed victory.

Matt Blair halved the deficit with a goal for Bedworth, who play in The Zamaretto Football League Division One Midlands.

But Moore restored a two-goal advantage on the hour before two goals in quick succession from Steve Settle gave Mossley breathing space.

Jason Moore scored a second goal for Bedworth, but it proved nothing more than a consolation.

OLDHAM TOWN paid the penalty for an early mistake as they bowed out of the FA Vase, losing 1-0 at home to Winsford United in the first round proper.

The only goal of the game was a third-minute penalty from Craig Hoyland which followed a foul by Duncan Philbin.

First division Town acquitted themselves well against opponents from the premier division of the Vodkat North West Counties League.

Town were denied an equaliser when Winsford keeper Faria Jackson, who is on loan from Mossley, made important first-half saves to deny Arnold Nsimbe and Philbin.

STUNNING

Danny Pearson, the Town keeper, saved well from Liam Prince early in the second half while Jackson denied Lee Deakin, Callum O’Sullivan and James Curley, the latter a stunning save.

CHADDERTON paid the price for the lack of a cutting edge as they lost 3–0 at Wigan Robin Park in the first division of the Vodkat NWCL.

The Broadway side could have been 3-0 up before Park took the lead in the 40th minute.

Danny Shaw, Andy Pheby and Martin Love all failed to find the net after bursting clean through on goal.

Ryan Small eventually broke the deadlock as he was left unmarked to head home a free kick.

Chadderton’s bad luck was epitomised early in the second half when Chris Pauley had a shot blocked on the goalline only for Park to immediately break and score a second goal through Chris McNally.

Chadderton, who went two at the back to try to get something from the game, were caught out again as Stephen Williams added a third goal after 85 minutes.
