HOLLINWOOD are hot on the heels of Wythenshawe Amateurs in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League premier division.
Paul Bennett’s side sit three points off the lead after an emphatic 4-1 win at Chapel Town.
Anthony Robinson was the star of the show, notching a first-half hat-trick, while Matt Tooth got the other 10 minutes from time.
Hollinwood are immediately above Avro, who were too good for lowly Leigh Athletic.
They recorded their first clean sheet of the season in a 5-0 triumph. On target were James Hampson (two), Daniel Grimshaw (two) and Kelvin White.
Royton beat Springhead 4-1 in the local derby at Ashfield Crescent. See John Gilder’s Match of the Day.
In division two, Avro reserves and Springhead reserves both posted 2-2 draws, while Hollinwood’s second string have taken over top-spot in division three after a 4-2 win at local rivals Royton Town.
Adam Fitzgerald scored his first goal in four years for ’Wood — and it was well worth the wait, a 30-yard strike.
Neil Rennie weighed in with a brace and Gareth Edwards got the other. Anthony Boyle and Tom Dale replied for Town.
In division four, a young Hollinwood ‘A’ side maintained their 100-per-cent record with a 5-0 win at fellow title contenders West Didsbury ‘A’.
Ryan Hobin scored twice to take his tally to 10 goals in four games. Also on the mark were Chris McDonald, Callum Ashworth and Paul Byrnes.
