Derby honours go to Aero ‘A’

BAE A beat their B team 8-2 in the Oldham Table Tennis League first division with three wins from Tony Bates and two apiece from Tom Lang and Pete Bradford. Mick Hill replied with two for the B team.
Werneth A followed up their 10-0 demolition of their B team with a 9-1 win against their C team. Darryl and Stuart Meredith were undefeated while Paul Wilkinson scored the C team’s consolation.
There was a close-fought match at Rosehill where the home team lost 6-4 to Werneth B, Dave Pegg’s double being trumped by a treble for Amanda Winskill. None of the singles were won in straight sets with five of them requiring a decider.
Another close game at Honeywell A saw them finally succumb 6-4 to Saddleworth CC A. In his first game of the season, Paul Cicchelli scored a maximum for the cricketers.
Hollinwood A had a good win 9-1 at home to Grotton A. Tristran Swann and Ian Quinn scored maximum’s and Colin Boardman an excellent two.
Title favourites Glodwick had another easy win, 8-2 at home to Honeywell B with Kamal Hussain and Zillur Rahman unbeaten.
Early pacesetters Unison A beat Honeywell D 9-1 in the second division, with six matches going to a deciding set. Liaqat Ali and Alan Auxilly scored three each.
Uppermill A whitewashed Hollinwood F 10-0 with Mark Simpson, Pete Watson and Keith Moores being the successful trio.
An excellent night’s table tennis at Werneth D against Pennine resulted in a 7-3 win for the visitors. Glen Chadwick was outstanding in being unbeaten for Pennine with support from Steve Mather (2) and an improving John Robertson (1).
Previously, Pennine had gone down 9-1 at home to Honeywell C when their only success was in the doubles, Barrie Royle, Brian Higgins and Peter Buckley all being undefeated for the visitors.
In the a derby at Hollinwood between the D and C teams, the Cs won 7-3 with trebles for Steve Collins and Matty Evans.
Deaf Club A continued their charge at the top of the third divisiion with a 9-1 defeat of Grotton B. Peter Dawson and Ian Cockcroft were unbeaten, with Alan Sarsfield replying for Grotton.
Unison C, in second place, won 7-3 against Coldhurst D with Mike O’Gara unbeaten and Jim Bollard winning two.
Meanwhile, newly-promoted Unison D struggled at home against Grotton B and ended losing 9-1. Alf Barker and Steve Smith were unbeaten for the visitors.
St Saviours Brian Huskinson lost his 100-per-cent record to an outstanding, unbeaten Paul Woodward in their 6-4 defeat to the Owls A team.
Deaf Club B team are mirroring their A team at the top of division four and they won 10-0 against Werneth F.
Werneth E are the closest challengers and inflicted 9-1 defeat on Owls B team. Joe Taylor and Darren Mitzi were unbeaten.
Werneth G were unable to inflict a defeat on Abdul Gufar but his three were Glodwick Academy’s only points in a 7-3 defeat.
Abdul Gufar also won three against Counthill as the Academy won 6-4.
