HIGGINSHAW were too strong for Blackpool in division four, running out 38-8 winners on home soil and scoring seven tries in the process.

New signing Mark Fitton gave Higginshaw an extra attacking option from acting half-back and marked his debut by scoring a 65-yard interception effort, while man-of-the-match Scott Hewson and two-try Michael Cadd both had a big impact on the game.

For the majority of the game Higgy's defence was resolute, only cracking 10 minutes in and again for a consolation try three minutes from time.

Gareth Franklin opened the scoring five minutes in with a try converted by David Sweeney, before Stanley pulled back to 6-4.

Carl Fields grabbed a second Higgy try, Sweeney adding the extras for an eight-point half-time lead.

After the break, three quick tries from Cadd, Fitton and Scott Foote were added to by two more Sweeney conversions.

Fitton added another and Cadd came up with the home team's final try eight minutes from time, Sweeney finishing with five goals.

ROCHDALE Cobras maintained their 100-per-cent start to the division five season with a 76-0 home thrashing of Bury Broncos.

On a gloriously hot day the Cobras ran in 12 tries, prompting player-coach Netani Suka to comment after the match:

"It is hard to take stock from a one-sided game, but we know what to work on in training as we could have scored 100 had we made the right choices.”

Full-back and man-of-the-match Adam Butterworth scored a hat-trick, but it was the defensive shutout which also impressed for the Cobras.

Other men scoring tries included Fred Veraqu (two), Tetley, Ryan Blake, Alex Tansey, Clegg, Gareth Wood (two), Jackson. Butterworth also kicked six goals for a 24-point haul, West landing five.

ELSEWHERE, Oldham St Anne's 'A' lost 46-16 at home to Leigh East in division one, Saddleworth Rangers 'A' were beaten 64-18 at Dalton in division three and Waterhead 'A' lost 21-18 at Hindley in division five.
