Hollinwood effort gives future hope

A SOLID first-half performance brought with it hope for Hollinwood despite eventually going down to a 36-6 home defeat at the hands of Hoyland Vikings in division four.

Strong defence restricted the visitors to only one try and goal before half-time and even that was answered by a Liam Parker four-pointer, converted by Darren Cooper, to level it up going into the second period.

The extra fitness levels of Hoyland showed through after that as Hollinwood tired and dropped off tackles, but the feeling within the home management is that as the squad carries on training this facet will improve through the season.

Pete Jackson was back to his best and earned himself the man-of-the-match award, while Mark Johnson and Ian Hunt also played well. The appeal is still on for more players to join in at training, which takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7pm at Fields New Road.
