SANTOS enjoyed a profitable week in the Lancashire and Cheshire League, with four points from two games.

They got off the mark for the season with a 2-1 win over North Reddish WMC 2-1 — Peter Mayall and Adam McKinney were on target — and followed with a goalless draw against Manchester Rovers.

Santos started brightly in the division two clash and had the majority of possession, with half chances falling to Dean Ashton and McKinney.

Reece Mills struck a post in the second half with a left-foot drive, while Martin Green was inches away from connecting with John Mayall’s free-kick.

But Santos also had a scare when a Rovers effort was cleared off the line.

Also in division two, Oldham Victoria opened their campaign with a 4-3 defeat at home to Aldermere, but AFC Oldham 2005 picked up maximum points with an emphatic 4-1 win over Hollingworth OB.

Other results — Division ‘C’: Oldham Victoria Res 2, Mellor 3rds 4. Division ‘D’: Mellor 4ths 1, AFC Oldham 2005 Res 2.

HOME GUARD proved too good for Dog and Partridge in the Ashton Sunday League.

Cooke collected three of the goals in a 6-3 win, while Siddall and Parkinson each scored twice for Golden Buck, who overcame Shaw Rovers 5-3.

HOLLY TAYLOR scored the consolation goal as Ashton United Ladies lost 3-1 at home to Halton Ladies in the Cheshire and Manchester Women’s League.

GEMMA Jacobs hit a hat-trick, Helen Smith scored twice and Kate Seville got the other as Heyside Ladies recorded a comfortable 6–0 win over Mossley Juniors in the West Riding Women’s League.

AFC ROYTON recovered from their opening day defeat with a fine 3-1 win against Todmorden Borough in division two of the Rochdale On-line Alliance.

Dean Hulse broke from his own half, shaking off several challenges, before firing low into the bottom corner.

Carl Lawton quickly put the home side two up, but marking allowed Todmorden to pull a goal back.

Royton recovered their composure and Lawton added his second and Royton’s third.
