CHADDERTON Mill Lodge was in brilliant form for the final of the Dave Slattery Memorial Series.
Alan Shaw has made it known on many occasions how much he would like to win this competition and there couldn’t have been a prouder man than the Tight Lines rod.
He used chopped worm at seven metres for 13 carp to 4lb and a match-winning 54lb total.
Steve Hall (Gilders) struggled early on, but a late burst pushed him up to second place with seven carp and plenty of silver fish for 44lb.
Ian Cox, in third place, returned 41lb of silver fish from unfancied corner peg 11 – the best-ever weight recorded from the peg.
Pete Mottram was fourth with a 39lb net which included 30lb of carp and 9lb of silvers, while section winners were Peter Fitton (20lb), Lee Humphries (24lb), Aden Boydiak (27lb) and Peter Humphreys (28lb).
Tackle dealer Gerry Lees generously donated all of this season’s winnings from the water to the prize fund which took the total to more than £700.
n BILLY BRIERLEY won the Park Lake match and also finished up £176 better off. Situated on favoured peg 25, he caught chub, perch and roach on the pole, chopped worm and maggot at 13 metres, before switching down the side for another half-a-dozen chub for an 8lb 6oz finish.
Brierley also scooped the bonus peg money, which had built up over several weeks.
Darren Webb, of Tight Lines, was second with three skimmers, two tench, some roach and perch for 5lb 5oz.
Andrew Mitchell (GTI Gilders) was third with a 4lb 10oz chub net.
That was a fish more than Paul Lord, who had 4lb 8oz of chub on pellet.
Brierley won Monday night’s Park Lake open match, with a 12lb 14oz bag of roach, chub and perch on maggot at 14 metres.
Travel partner Bob Harrison (Team HB) opted for pellet and it paid off with 10lb 8oz of skimmers and the odd chub , while Mick Tighe (Chadderton Mill AC) was third with 10lb 4oz of bream, skimmers and roach on bread punch.
JIM WILD landed carp, ide and roach for 18lb 14oz to win the latest Cranberry AC match on the Partridge Fisheries’ Marsh Canal.
Rod Illing had a similar catch of 16lb 12oz, while Tommy Hughes had a mixed bag of 14lb 12oz and fourth-placed John Keeley had 14lb 4oz of silver fish.
THE Medlock Bridge AC open on the Park Lake was a struggle with no-one achieving double-figures.
Paul Pimlott, the winner with exactly 8lb, had skimmers, roach and small chub on the waggler and maggot.
In-form Billy Brierley (Team HB) had to settle for second-best with 6lb 11oz .
Danny Heywood had a decent bream around the 2lb mark and some bits for 5lb 5oz.
ALAN SHAW came out on top in a close-fought Chadderton Mill AC match on the club water. He used chopped worm at seven metres for 22lb 8oz of carp.
Organiser Lee Humphries had plenty of ide before a late switch to paste down the edge yielded two carp for 21lb 4oz.
A PRACTICE match for the Pennine Winter League takes place on the Derdale to Sewage Works lengths of the Rochdale Canal on Sunday.
