Fitton holds his nerve

DESPITE drawing a blank in the first two hours, Peter Fitton pocketed the the Dave Slattery Memorial match on Chadderton Mill Lodge.
The Rochdale Angling Supplies ace tipped 63lb 2oz of carp on to the scales, using maggot up in the water at nine metres.
The competition threw up plenty of big weights, and Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman) was second with 48lb 15oz of ide and carp on maggot and paste.
PAUL Hill (Gilders) has had an incredible year, with many wins and places.
He continued his scintillating form with another victory in Thursday night’s Chadderton Mil AC match on the club water.
Employing maggot and caster up in the water for ide before switching to paste down the side for carp, he netted himself 36lb.
Hill’s effort was just too good for Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman), who had 20lb of ide on pole-fished maggot and caster before also switching to paste down the edge for 14lb of carp in a 34lb total.
DEAN TURNER claimed top spot in the Todmorden AS match on Town House Fishery, thanks to a 23lb 1oz net of ide and roach on caster on the long pole.
Rob McEndry, in second place, had 21lb 2oz of carp and ide on pole and bread.
The Todmorden AS match on Croft was a carp-dominated affair.
The main man was Chris Oliver, who boasted a 25lb 14oz bag which included carp and silver fish on pellet.
McEndry had to settle for second-best again. This time he had a 15lb 2oz catch, which included carp on pole and pellet, with Turner (10lb 8oz) carrying on his good form in third.
ANDY Fletcher won the Todmorden AS Trophy match on Town House, weighing in a 25lb 14oz bag of carp on the pole and feeder.
John Mellor, in second place, had 18lb 1oz of carp also on the pole.
BILLY Brierley lead the way in the Medlock Bridge AC open on the Park Lake.
The Team HB rod used pellet fished at nine metres for 6lb 9oz of skimmers.
Paul Lloyd was second, with worm at 10 metres tempting 6lb 3oz of perch to six ounces.
Monday’s match at the venue went to Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman), who opted for a bread-punch attack at nine metres for 11lb 15oz of skimmers.
Dave Pollitt, the runner-up, registered 9lb 6oz of skimmers on pole-fished pellet.
ALAN Shaw came out on top in a close-fought Chadderton Mill AC match on the club water.
Shaw, of Tight Lines, Shaw, used chopped worm for 22lb 10oz of carp to 4lb.
Lee Humphries (GTI Matchman), the runner-up, had 15lb of ide on maggot as well as a few carp for 21lb.
Steve Hodgson was third with 17lb of carp on pellet.
A PRACTICE match for the Pennine Winter League is being staged at the Derdale to Sewage Works lengths of the Rochdale Canal on September 13.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Still fishing well for big fish.
Rochdale Canal: Fishing well, with roach, skimmers and bream dominating catches, although the odd tench is also being caught. Red maggot, caster and bread are the best baits.
Chadderton Mill Lodge: Ide to maggot while feeding caster fished shallow. Paste down the edge for carp. A few fish are now showing to pellet.
Park Lake: Maggot, caster, worm and bread all catching plenty of fish. Skimmers showing to pellet.
