ALAN HODSON won the Failsworth Bowling League Merit with a 21-19 defeat of his Springbank team-mate Mark Garbett in the final at Werneth Cricket Club.
Quarter-finals: Brian Horsfield (Failsworth Cycle) 8, Ian Gorbutt (Royton Cricket) 21; Garbett 21, Paul Heap (Springbank) 15; Hodson 21, David Thornley (Dobcross) 15; Neil Pollitt (HMSO) 10, Brian Firman (HMSO) 21.

TERRY Queenan (Werneth Park) lifted the Oldham Veterans’ League’s President’s Cup when he overcame Bob Nisbet (Nimble Nook) 21-16 in the final held at Stanley Road Conservative Club.

Quarter-finals: A Jackson (Springbank) 21, L Greenwood (Springbank) 20; A Marsden (Werneth Park) 18, Queenan 21; Nisbet 21, S Boston (Crompton) 19; K Platt (Chadderton Hall Park) 18, J O’Neill (Springhead Libs) 21.

Semi-finals: Jackson 17, Queenan 21; Nisbet 21, O’Neill 18.

The Veterans’ League’s Clayton Cup final between Norden and Springhead Libs will take place at Moorside on Friday (1.30pm).


THE qualifying rounds for the Chadderton League’s pairs competition will be held next Monday (practice 6.15pm, start 6.45pm).

The finals will be held at Springbank the following Monday.
