Quartet conquers all comers on home turf

WERNETH completed the "home" grand slam for the 2017 Oldham and District men's golf events.
The quartet of Jack Suttie, Les Dooley, Johnny Dooley and Adie Buckley lifted the Fourman Team trophy to complete the list of home winners.
The roll of honour also includes Mark Heywood (Chronicle Cup, Oldham) Gary Melling (District Championship, Crompton and Royton) and Dean Jagger (Centenary trophy, Saddleworth).
They posted a score of 101pts (two to count with all four scores counting at the 14th and 18th) at the Garden Suburn course to win by a single point from fellow Werneth members Tony McNamara, Ian Sutton, Barry Collier and Dave Rhodes.
There was a five-point gap to third, a team that included Werneth captain Andy Hey, Mark Abbott, Steve Oldham and Chris Cordwell, while the Crompton and Royton quartet of Mike Pickering, Eddie Gordon, Dave Marrison and John Jones were fourth on 92pts.
The BMW Classic at Saddleworth - a Stableford competition - saw Ben Simpson, Ste Pullen, Mark Andersson-Wild and Andrew Thornton emerge victorious with 102 points.
Andrew Dunster, Allan Entwistle, Kevin Bradbury and Keneth Barnes (100pts) claimed second place, while Ken Mills, Mike Ralph, Nigel Rhodes and Simon Halliwell (96pts) took third.
In a medal competition at Crompton and Royton, Graeme Walker carried off top honours with a round of 76-10-66, from Paul W Harrison, who shot 81-14-67 for runners-up spot on a card play-off. Steven Barrett (71-4-67) was third.
BAGGED
The Bryant Cup at Blackley - a two-round competition - went to Craig Roberts with 71+66=137.
He finished a shot ahead of Michael Thomas (68+70=138), who bagged second place on a card play-off from William Stuart (65+73=138).
