'A' team inspire Greenfield to success

A PENETRATING bowling display set up Greenfield for a comfortable six-wicket defeat of Glodwick in the Pennine Cricket League Premiership.
The visitors to Ladhill Lane were dismissed for 115 Adam Robinson and Andrew Cadd, who spearheaded the attack, weighed in with three for 20 and three for 41 respectively.
Brad Woolley and Jake Caudwell bagged two wickets apiece, the former for one run in 2.3 overs.
Alex Peters was unbeaten on 35 in reply as Greenfield reached their target with one ball remaining of the 30th over. Zaheeb Mirza took three for 34.
Heyside threw away a winning position against a Ryan Burl-inspired Littleborough at Hare Hill.
After restricting the hosts to 174 for seven, of which Burl compiled 88, Ryan Barnes' men were bowled out for 163 after being 158 for six.
Zimbabwe pro Burl claimed six for 43.
Crompton were on the wrong end of a 91-run mauling at Monton and Weaste.
This Sunday's JW Lees Bitter Wood Cup finalists were left chasing 216 for victory after No.6 Josh Lenihan made a vital 64 and Ockert Erasmus a patient 58 from 101 deliveries.
Crompton were soon on the back foot as they lost both openers, overseas amateur Denis Louis and Kain Dean, with only nine on the board.
Captain Simon Wright scored a typical belligerent 72 - nine fours and a six - but only one other player made double figures, professional Akbar Rehman (15), as the innings stuttered to 124 all out.
Title hopefuls Norden eased to a six-wicket success over Austerlands, who succumbed for 160 at Woodhouse Lane.
DEFEATED
In a game of 24 overs per side, leaders Walsden defeated Rochdale by seven wickets.
The hosts made 122 for five, and Walsden were in a spot of bother at 13 for two in reply until a stand of 86 between paid man Umesh Karunaratne (50 n.o) and Nick Barker (46) put the reigning chmpions in the box seat.
After Friday's heavy rain, no play was play was possible between Stayley and Saddleworth at Millbrook.
