Prolific Dobson is major marvel

MORE than 20 majors and counting.

That is Roy Dobson's stunning record at Saddleworth Golf Club after clinching the Committee Cup.

The two-round competition saw Dobson post 70 and 69 for a 139 total.

He was three shots clear of runner-up Mick Harrington (74 and 68), with Gary Simpson (71 and 72) in third place.

Crompton and Royton's youngsters produced a dominant performance in the Williams BMW Junior Knock-out.

Away to Dukinfield, they won 6-1 to book their place in round two.

Oldham GEMS played the latest round of the Brian Radcliffe Trophy, with Bill Broomhead (17 points) lead the way from from Jack Roberts (15pts) and Mike Dunkerley (14pts).

Broomhead linked up with Charlie Middlewood and Dunkerley to win the team prize with 42 points.

Ashton's junior star Sam Brierley showed his class with victory Division One of a Tuesday Stableford with 38 points, ahead of Paul Cooper (37pts) and Darren Sharkey (36pts).

The Commemorative Cup is a major competition at Ashton and, in a tight finish, the old firm of Alan Newall and Eric Rostron won a CPO on 91 points, from Nigel Kay and Glynn Andrew.
