OING UP . . . Heyside's successful 2016-17 squad are (back row, left to right): Lee Clough (coach/assistant manager), Daniel Booth, Brian Lord, Joe Hughes, Josh Briddon, Johnny Pauley, Kevan Thorpe, G Schofield, Jordan Hindley and Alex Jenkinson. Front: Tom Hardman (physio/kitman), Gary Molyneux, Daniel Dunn, Brad Dowling, Reece Hursthouse (captain), Danny Pauley, Chris Ollerton, Mark Hopwood and Geoff Howard (manager). Not on the picture: Lyle Bogle and Gaz Shaw.
HEYSIDE sealed their promotion to the Manchester League Premier Division in emphatic style as they crushed visitors Irlam Steel 11-0.
Following his hat-trick for the reserves the previous week, 18-year-old Alex Jenkinson was rewarded with a call up to the starting XI and repaid manager Geoff Howard's faith with another superb treble.
An early Daniel Dunn penalty set Heyside on their way, and when Jenkinson calmly slotted goals two and three, the half-time cushion looked to be enough.
SUBLIME
Defender Daniel Pauley got in on the act, as did substitutes Jordan Hindley and Lyle Bogle, while Johnny Pauley scored the goal of the game with a sublime 45-yard chip.
Top score Mark Hopwood wasn't to be left out and scored his 28th of a fabulous season, before Jenkinson completed his second hat-trick in consecutive weeks.
With minutes remaining normal goalkeeper Brian Lord had a stint up front for the Sky Blues and completed the rout with a calm finish.
The champagne flowed after the game, with Howard (pictured) saying: "Credit to Irlam for turning up on the day despite being obviously struggling for a team.
"But that result, performance and season overall have been fantastic.
"I've nothing but credit for all of their commitment and effort this season as a squad of players.
"We said at the start of the season if we can be committed and stick together we'll be competitive.
"I think we've certainly done that.
"Jenkinson's hat-trick is special, but not a surprise, he's a tremendous prospect!
"We've had a superb three years and the dream of reaching the Manchester Premier is now fulfilled."
Elsewhere, Hollinwood were beaten 3-0 at Bolton County.
Rock-bottom Uppermill went down 2-1 at home against Westbury Sports Club.
James Gregory scored the consolation goal.
