LOOKING FOR AN OPENING . . . Dynamos' Anthony Robinson.
Failsworth Dynamos 0, Old Boltonians 1
IT just wasn't Failsworth Dynamos' day as they lost their 100-per-cent record in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Amateur League at Brierley Avenue.
Dynamos conceded late on against an Old Boltonians side who they overcame this time last season to begin a winning run and eventually lift the title.
With Dynamos manager Wayne Kennedy unavailable due to other commitments, it was down to his son, 30-year-old Wayne junior, to take up the managerial reins.
Kennedy said: "It was a really tight game and the longer it stayed at 0-0 there was always the chance that they would go on to catch us on the break.
"It was a very cagey game and they did eventually catch us out.
"It felt like destiny after we had beaten them last season to go on and win the league.
'CHANCES'
"We had a number of decent chances to score, but it just wasn't to be for us."
Twice in the early stages Anthony Robinson spurned clear-cut opportunities when Dynamos were pressing.
When Boltonians did hit Dynamos on the counter-attack, centre-back Michael Wolfe was at his best to repel any threat of a goal.
And with former Latics man Phil Salt a calming influence in midfield, it seemed that, at the very least, a point would be secured.
After Boltonians nosed themselves in front late on, there was still time and a glorious opportunity to level matters.
Josh Burrows' inch-perfect delivery picked out Terry Qualters just six-yards from goal, only for the midfield man to scuff his effort with the ball rolling harmlessly wide.
Kennedy's side must surely still go on to retain their hard-earned title and must put to bed days like this as soon as they can.
FAILSWORTH DYNAMOS: Longdin, Stuttard, Wolfe, Shenton, McDougal, Roberts, Qualters, Salt, Martin, Cottier, Robinson. Subs: Burrows, Kelly, Harrison.
STAR MAN: Michael Wolfe (Dynamos) - Commanding performance at the back.
