Under -11s Indoor Cricket League
ROYTON Trojans took a massive step towards winning the Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League title by defeating nearest rivals Saddleworth.
Those watching harboured hopes of a tight finish, but they were to be disapppointed as Saddleworth’s normally reliable batting line-up could only muster 218, in reply to 236.
Royton’s star man was Alfie McMylor, who claimed three wickets in an over.
The other matches in week seven were nip and tuck.
Royton Heroes’ last pair of Sam Hurst and Roan Mallinson required 22 runs in pursuit of Austerlands Aces’ total of 237.
The duo levelled the scores with one delivery left, and then, despite being unable to get bat on ball from the final delivery, they scrambled a bye to win by the narrowest of margins.
Heyside got off the mark in another game that went to the wire.
The Little Hey Street club scored an impressive 257, but with two balls remaining Uppermill had drawn level.
Enter Heyside’s Connor Murphy for his moment of glory. With the penultimate ball he took a wicket, costing Uppermill five runs, a lead Heyside were able to maintain.
Adil Shazad had an excellent match for Glodwick. He first scored 13 runs in his side’s total of 237 against Shaw, and then produced a superb last over, knowing he had to get a wicket to win the match.
Sam Holdaway and Oliver Cocker weathered the storm, though, as Shaw closed on 246.
Christchurch’s total of 237 gave them a chance of their second victory, and Woodhouses were struggling on only 213 as the last pair came to the wicket.
However, a combination of solid batting and wayward bowling, enabled Woodhouses to edge ahead at 243.
In the final match, Austerlands Avengers’ inexperienced side found Greenfield too good.
They could only manage 196, with their opponents amassing 272 in reply.
