Failsworth hot-shots
Date published: 23 May 2012
GET IN . . . captain Ben Ingham and his Failsworth School team-mates have plenty to smile about after being crowned the Year Sevens champions.
Dominant Failsworth clinched victory in four age groups in the Oldham Schools League finals at Boundary Park.
The Year Sevens edged out Royton and Crompton 3-2, while a 6-4 win at the expense of North Chadderton handed them glory in the Year Eights category.
The Year Nines defeated Blue Coat 3-2 and, after a 1-1 draw with Crompton House in the Year 10s group, Failsworth prevailed 5-4 on penalties.
Year 11s action saw Crompton House win 6-5 on penalties against North Chadderton following a 2-2 draw.
Crompton House swept aside Blue Coat 4-1 in the Sixth Form final.
Organiser Steve Tyrrell heaped praise on their hosts.
He said: "It was an excellent event and I cannot thank Oldham Athletic enough.
"They were the most hospitable hosts we have ever had _ nothing was too much trouble for their staff. They looked after us superbly well.
"I have written to their chief executive, Neil Joy, to express our appreciation.
"It is a wonderful gesture for a professional football club to give up their ground for our finals.
"If a club wants to get involved with the local community they should look at Athletic as a perfect example, because that is the way to do it."
