Oldham march on after late winner

FOOTBALL: MAGNIFICENT Oldham under-15s are through to the quarter-finals of the English Schools FA
Inter-Association Trophy after edging out Stockport 3-2 in a tense fifth-round clash at Cheadle FC.
The contest was played at a blistering pace and Stockport drew first blood through Harry Wedge with half-an-hour on the clock.
Oldham rolled up their sleeves and just five minutes later, Daniel Lindley (Royton and Crompton) levelled matters.
Oldham were on cloud nine after the interval when Greg Street (Blue Coat) put them in front with a powerful drive just 40 seconds after the whistle. Stockport equalised through an Alex Egerton penalty.
With extra-time looming, Tom Scullion (Failsworth) found the net for Oldham, where they will face the winners of Brierley Hill and Dudley v Mid-Oxfordshire. Scullion has also been banging in the goals for Failsworth Town (see story on the right).
Oldham have hit top form in the prestigious competition this season. They have already overcome Bradford, Leeds and York along the way.
The talented youngsters now find themselves in the last eight of a tournament that initially comprised of 148 sides from across the UK.
Holders Liverpool remain many people’s favourites to lift the trophy again. They saw off Sefton last time out.
Scullion is talk of the Town
TOM Scullion bagged a hat-trick for Failsworth Town under-15s in the Tameside Sunday League.
Town swept aside FC United of Tameside 11-3, with Jordan Mortimer also scoring three, Kane Hughes a brace, and Cole De’ath, Curtis Ingham and Mark Corcoran one each.
The under-14s beat Ashton All Stars 6-1, Jordan Pilkington producing a treble.
Ryan Johnston pounced twice and Kyle Hall joined him on the scoresheet.
AVRO under-14s put eight goals past Manchester Maccabi without reply.
Mattie Wilson got three, Ben Hulme and Jack Holmes two apiece, and Reece Shearer also scored.
Avro under-12s defeated Chaddy End 5-3.
Ellis Robinson struck twice. Nyal Platt, James Sloane and Josh Berrisford were also on target.
Matthew Gibson and Owen Woodward replied for Chaddy End, with Avro also scoring an own goal.
ROCS under-16s defeated Oldham Athletic 8-2 in the North Manchester Girls’ League.
On the mark for ROCS were Angela Fox, Danielle Pickett and Rhema Mears with two goals apiece, and Anna Moorhouse and Megan Jackson.
Vicky Connor and Jessica Bevan struck for Oldham Athletic.
CHADDERTON Park under-11s were held to a 0-0 draw by Denton Tigers.
