Saints stroll to cup win

RUGBY: OLDHAM St Anne’s under-13s progressed to the Lancashire Cup semi-final courtesy of a 26-6 triumph at the expense of Blackbrook Blues.
Saints took the lead through an Oliver Russell touchdown, before individual efforts from Ciaran Dean and Patrick Casey increased the advantage.
Shaun Hurley and Jacob Foley crossed for Saints after the break.
Casey converted twice, while Russell also added extras.
Saints face Blackbrook Royals at home in the eagerly-anticipated semi-final on Sunday (10.30am kick-off).
SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-15s overcame the challenge of Blackbrook Royals in one of the toughest games of the season, by claiming a 12-8 victory.
The result maintained their excellent league record, which has seen them go unbeaten for almost three seasons, during which time they have celebrated two promotions.
But it soon became clear that they would have to battle all the way to win this one.
Their opponents opened the scoring with a try after 10 minutes, but Rangers soon hit back.
Jack Johnson ran the full length of the pitch to cross, and Bradley Grantmyre added the extras.
However, a Blackbrook touchdown just before the break handed them a narrow lead.
The second half was a close affair.
Sebastian Leech went over for Rangers in the corner, and Grantmyre again converted to seal the victory.
WATERHEAD under-14s edged a tough encounter with Shevington Sharks 26-20.
Matty Jackson and Billy McDermott notched two tries each, with Danny Fairfoull adding a fine solo effort. Jackson goaled twice, and Joe Chadderton also converted.
HIGGINSHAW under-16s roared to a 16-0 victory over Ashton Bears.
In-form Callum Deakin touched down after 10 minutes, with Jamie Mayall goaling.
Five minutes after the half-time break Jack Hughes went over for Higgy in the corner.
Dominic Bryan put the icing on the cake with a try five minutes from the end. Mayall converted.
