Basketball: FAILSWORTH Sports College’s budding young talents claimed victory in the Oldham Schools' Senior Basketball tournament, beating Oasis Academy 14-12 in the final.
The nail-biting win secured a spot at the Greater Manchester Games, which will take place at the Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester on March 11.
The senior tournament, for Years 10 and 11 took place at the Oasis Academy’s Roman Road campus, and featured 10 local schools - all aiming to claim the prize of representing Oldham at a higher level.
North Chadderton and Our Lady's were the defeated semi-finalists.
Elsewhere Waterhead Academy were unlucky not to make it past the quarter-finals after winning three out of four pool matches, eventually being eliminated on baskets conceded.
Gary Melling, Chairman of the Oldham Schools' Basketball Association, said: "It was good to see so many schools take part, especially given the recent weather we have had.
"I think Failsworth have a fair chance at the Greater Manchester Games. They will be competing for the title against schools from other boroughs."
