Three for Steel in ROCS rout

FOOTBALL: LAUREN Steel scored a hat-trick in ROCS under-16s’ 6-2 victory over Heyside Clarets in the North Manchester Girls’ League.

She was joined on the scoresheet by Rhema Mears, who bagged a brace, and Shona Ninian.

The under-14s swept aside Ashton Pumas 6-0, with Abby Bennett grabbing a hat-trick.

Sam Bickerstaffe pounced twice, and Leah Bickerstaffe was also on target.


HEYSIDE Angels Clarets under-15s swept aside Oldham Athletic 4-1 thanks to goals from Ashleigh Beverley, Freya Murray, Sarah Hardman and Taomi Hawksworth.
But the Blues under-15s lost 4-0 to Denton.

The under-14s Angels Inter earned a 3-1 triumph over Denton, with Alix Sephton notching two goals and Ella Milovanovic also finding the net.

Tia Jackson hit three goals in the Angels Inter under-13s’ 6-1 win over Uppermill. Ellie Doggett, Jade Hughes and Georgia Clarke also got in on the act.

The Angels Clarets under-13s saw off Middleton Athletic 3-0 after an Alicia Stretton double, and Ashleigh Wylie’s strike.

Beth Boothroyd, Ashlin Miller and Katie Halligan scored in the under-11s’ 3-0 defeat of Denton.


OLDHAM under-15s bid to make it through to the last 16 of the ESFA Inter-Association Trophy when they face York on Saturday (10.30am kick-off).
Oldham have struggled with pitches this season and they may have to give up their home advantage and travel to York.

The last round saw Oldham beat Bradford 5-2, having received a first- round bye.

That was followed by a thrilling 2-1 extra-time victory at the expense of Leeds.

Manager Adam Cree will be hoping his side can emulate the form shown so far in the tournament.

Defending champions Liverpool host Copeland, while Sefton take on Salford and Manchester face Stockport.

The under-14s are also hoping for a return to action if the schedule can beat the big freeze.

They are due to take on Warrington in the

North-West Woodward Trophy on Saturday (10.30am), with the venue still to be confirmed.

Oldham will meet the winners of Spen Valley v Bradford in the next round, if they overcome their Cheshire opponents.
