Perfect 10 for jubilant Rangers

A 10-try victory for Saddleworth Rangers under-14s tightened their grip at the top of North-West Counties division two.

Leyland Warriors were defeated 56-12 on their own ground, with Joseph Harrison-Brown leading the ways with four tries, Harry Wallace grabbing a hat-trick and Dominic Elkin, Lawrie Hughes and James Fowles all weighing in.

Man-of-the match Dominic D’Adamo capped a superb all-round performance by landing seven conversions from nine attempts.

Rangers under-16s lost 56-4 away at Crosfields, their heaviest defeat of the season.

Rangers, missing key men, suffered through making too many handling errors.

Their only try came through Ricky Joy, who finished of an excellent team move.

Rangers under-12s were privileged to play on the club’s main pitch and rose to the occasion, winning 18-14 at home against Leyland Warriors.

Josh Hall, Harry Aaronson and Fin Wall scored the Rangers tries in an even encounter, with Tom Jowle’s three goals ultimately making all the difference.

Blackbrook beat Rangers under-nines by nine tries to six in a tough battle.

Elijah Wolstenholme scored two tries for Rangers, who also crossed through Ben Forster, Adam Howarth, Josh Yarwood and Bradley Jinks.

A very good Ince Rose Bridge side inflicted Rangers under-eights’ second defeat of the season, despite tries from Elliot Noble and Robbie Coates.




SHAW Rhinos under-16s lost 30-16 at home to Wigan St Cuthberts in a cracking game.
Try scorers for the Rhinos were debutant Oliver Bryan, Jonny Pertoldi and George Dyson, plus two conversions from Luke Bentley.



Four-try Turner inspires Eagles

HIGGINSHAW Eagles under-15s beat Leigh East 54-12 in the first round of the North-West Counties Cup, with man-of-the-match Bradley Turner running in four tries.

Eagles dominated the game with some strong running from the forwards setting up good position for the backs.

The other scorers on the day were Josh Queenan (three), Elliot White (two), Nyle Reyburn and Jack Hughes, with Queenan and Hughes adding conversions.


TORRENTIAL rain couldn’t stop the flow of Waterhead under-17s, who defeated Haydock Warriors 19-10 at home.

Tries came from Niall Dunnington-Wallace, Michael Tattersall and Curtis Robinson, with man-of-the-match Anthony Mellor kicking a drop goal and Luc Kinder striking three conversions.

Waterhead were also winners at under-14s level.

Tackling superbly at home against Rylands, tries from Kyle Cook and man-of-the-match Alex Fallon (two) plus goals from Jack Holmes helped the side to a 19-14 win.


OLDHAM St Anne’s under-11s lost 26-0 to a higher-ranked Wigan St Patricks side in the North-West Counties Cup, but gave them a good game in the process.

Saints boy-of-the-match Thomas Armstrong did well to get the ball through the hands on many occasions without quite being able to break down a resolute defence.

An improved performance saw Oldham St Anne’s under-nines run Leigh Miners Rangers close before going down by 15 tries to 11.

Scorers for Saints were Ethan Chappie (five), Alfie Baldwin, Thomas Rogers, Ben Ivell, Danny Fish, William Maloney and Mitcheal Odonal.

Saddleworth School won each of the five Year categories in the Oldham Schools rugby competitions held at Manor Park.

They completed the whitewash when the Year Sevens defeated Hathershaw 28-20. See picture
