Early joy turns to despair

OLDHAM Schools under 14s suffered a setback to their Greater Manchester Schools’ League title hopes when they went down 2-1 to Tameside.
The town team dominated from the start and they looked to be heading for another win when Dillon Moth (South Chadderton) opened the scoring after just 11 minutes.
But the Tamesiders came back strongly and levelled just before the break, before hitting Oldham on the break midway through the second half.
Oldham pushed forward in search of an equaliser, forcing several good saves from the Tameside ’keeper.
Joe Boulter (Saddleworth), Liam McNally (Blue Coat) and Moth had chances to restore parity, but their opponents held firm to deny Oldham a share of the spoils.
The under-14s are back in action on Saturday with a challenge match at Ribble Valley (kick-off 10.30am).
Meanwhile, the under-15s face a tough test on Saturday when they take on Cannock in round two of their ESFA Inter-Association Trophy at the Lancaster Club (10.30am).
They have played just one game so far this season. That was in late September when they overcame Macclesfield 3-2 in a Greater Manchester Schools’ League fixture.
