Uppermill’s goal blitz

Date published: 23 September 2009

FOOTBALL: A DEVASTATING opening spell from Uppermill under-12s set up an emphatic win at early-season leaders Gomersal and Cleckheatonin the Huddersfield and District Junior League.

The local outfit scored five times inside the first 10 minutes in a stunning 12-3 success.

Tom Johnstone led the way with six goals, while also on target were Josh Barlow (two), Lewis Barlow, Sean Bergin, Matthew Schofield and Connor Brennan.

The under-17s picked up a point in a 3-3 draw against Vision FC. An own goal, Joe Jackson and James Dunn made up the Uppermill tally.

3D DYNAMOS under-12s, with Ellis Forshaw (two), Sam Bagshaw (two), Charlie Maslen (two) and James Hey finding the net, defeated Batley Phoenix 7-3.

But under-13s ‘M’ were beaten 4-2 by Scholes — Michael Kitchen and Zak Gandy scored the consolation goals — and the under-16s only had a Matt Ralph goal to show for their efforts in a 7-1 defeat by Halifax Irish.

Rochdale and Oldham Youth League

SPRINGHEAD under-13s have made a superb start to the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League season with four wins from as many games.

But they had to work hard against Hollinwood, trailing on two occasions before hitting back to win 3-2.

A brilliant free-kick from Toby Ferguson, a Dominic Shaw penalty and the goal of the game from Will Millward, a rasping half-volley, clinched victory.

Springhead had to be patient before getting the better of Kingsway 5-0.

Goalless at the break, Ferguson broke the deadlock and quickly went on to complete his hat-trick.

Millward added a fourth, before Shaw slotted home a penalty after a foul on Ferguson.

HEYSIDE Juniors under-16s recovered from a goal down for the second consecutive week to win, this time a 3-2 home success over Failsworth Dynamos.

Matthew Dell equalised from the penalty spot and after Tom Shaw’s cool finish had been cancelled out. Dell netted his second and Heyside’s decisive third with a fine cross-shot.

JOSH Dale scored his first goal for Crompton Villa under-13s, who posted a narrow 4-3 win over Heywood Rangers.

Harry Southern (two) and Andrew Jones were the other marksmen.

CHADDERTON FC Juniors under-13s, with goals from Shaun Middleton (two), Reece Mellor and Bradley Humphreys, overcame Crompton Villa 4-3 in midweek, and followed up with a 7-2 win over Rochdale St Clements.

On the mark were Adam Marsden (three), Jermaine Martin (two) and Liam Eadsforth (two).

Oldham stunned by visitors’ late show

OLDHAM Schools under-14s went down 2-1 to a strong Manchester side in their opening Greater Manchester Schools’ League game of the season at The Lancaster Club.

The town team had the better of the early exchanges, but fell behind in the early stages of the second half.

Oldham came back strongly and equalised just before the hour mark when Joe Boulter (Saddleworth) converted a Dillon Moth (South Chadderton) corner.

The game looked to be heading for a draw, only for Manchester to grab a late winner.

The under-14s are back in action on Saturday against Macclesfield, also at The Lancaster Club.

Oldham’s under-15s side make the trip in the opposite direction for their first Greater Manchester Schools’ League match of the season.
