SADDLEWORTH'S Year Sevens rugby league team have been crowned Oldham Schools' champions for the fifth year running.
In the final, Saddleworth cruised to a commanding 48-0 victory against Waterhead.
There were five different try-scorers in the opening half, with the score standing at 26-0 by the interval.
Nine tries from seven different try-scorers overall was an indication of the strength in depth shown by the Saddleworth squad, with Jacob Mitchell and Nolan Tupaea both grabbing two touchdowns. Seven of the tries were converted by the reliable Jack Sinfield.
The captain of the Saddleworth team, Finlay Rogers (12), was delighted with the result and with the overall performance of his team on the day.
He said: "We played well as a team. We play a lot together and at weekends as well so we are able to bond well on the pitch."
The team will now aim to improve on last year's semi-final stage appearance in the North West Counties Schools' competition later this year, and will also represent the borough in the Carnegie Champion Schools' Cup in September.
