FOURTEEN-year-old Oldham Hulme pupil Tristan Lux is enjoying plenty of success in the exciting world of tournament water skiing and wake boarding.

Tristan, from Denshaw, prefers wake boarding of the two disciplines, and has now been competing at national level for three years.

He has just secured an impressive fourth-placed finish at the British National Championships.

Wakeboarding is a combination of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques.

The Lux family have been heavily involved in the increasingly popular sports since Tristan's dad Perry first took to the Lake Windermere water back in 1977.

Perry said: "Tristan is following in mine and his elder brother Elliot's footsteps really, as we've always enjoyed and competed in water-skiing and wake boarding events.

"Tristan is very determined to succeed on the water.

"He's out there training two or three times a week in the summer, and we've just returned from a week's warm weather training at the Xtreme Gene facility near Cordoba in Spain."

To cap a superb spell on the water, Tristan, whose family have always been members at the Brighouse-based White Rose Ski Club, has recently been advised by the British Waterski and Wakeboard Federation that he has been selected for the British squad.

With that news he has now set his sights on the Europe and African Championships in 2018.

The World Championships also take place next year, and Tristan has an eye on qualification for both events.

Tristan is following in the footsteps of his 25-year-old brother Elliot, who represented the Great Britain wakeboarding team in 2010.

While Elliot still rides and skis, he no longer competes competitively having concentrated on getting his degree in Extreme Sport Business Management and gaining his coaching qualifications.

He is currently travelling in South America.

Tristan, who is also a talented Oldham Seals club swimmer, table tennis player and footballer, is on the look-out for potential sponsors now that funding for water skiing and wake boarding has been cut.
