AN excellent bronze medal from the Southend International Open Judo competition confirmed 12-year-old Elizabeth 'Libby' Genge's potential as a potential star of the future.
Libby, who attends Crompton House School, only took up the tough Olympic sport a year ago.
She is aiming to rise as quickly as possible through the grades to enable her to compete nationally and internationally.
MEDALS
Libby, who already has gold medals from the North-West and Kendal competitions, surprised more experienced opponents who judged her on her novice third mon grade.
She is already an MMA veteran, experienced and highly successful, and has also been earmarked for elite achievement in Brazilian jiu jitsu.
She is a member of the National Youth BJJ squad and won a silver medal at the BJJ European Junior Championships.
Ranked number one at her grade and a national grappling champion, Libby, who trains at Bacup Judo Club with double Olympian Sophie Cox, is now eagerly looking forward to competing in the Pan American IBJJF Junior Worlds in California in 2017.
