Chisholm blow for Oldham

JAMEL Chisholm, the former Leeds Rhinos junior who has come of age with sterling displays in form-team Oldham’s run of three wins in a row, is out of tomorrow night’s game at Whitehaven (6.30pm kick-off).

He and his fellow winger Adam Clay head the club’s try list with five apiece, but Chisholm won’t add to his tally at the Recreation Ground because he is out with sore ribs, sustained in the first few minutes of last week’s massive Challenge Cup win at Hull KR.

Back in the mix are utility back Jack Holmes, recovered from an ankle injury, and prop Joe Burke, who was cup-tied last week.

Dual-reg players from Huddersfield Giants have also been made available to Naylor, who is expecting one of the toughest tests of the season so far,

The Oldham coach said: “Our three wins in a row have put a different slant on things. We might have been under-estimated in the past. We won’t be any more,

“Whitehaven will come at us with all guns blazing and, at the very least, we’ll have to hit the form we reached at Hull KR to get anything up there. It’s always tough in Cumbria."

Whitehaven coach James Coyle will have the option of using three 20-year-old dual registration players from Widnes Vikings — twins Jay and Ted Chapelhow (forwards) and full-back or wing Ed Chamberlain.

Coyle said: “We talk about the mini-league of four at the bottom end of the Championship, but the way Oldham are playing they look capable of pulling away from that group.”
