Kells should be proud — Naylor

COACH Scott Naylor thought his Oldham side was a “little bit off the pace” against Kells.

But he has no doubt Roughyeds will be fully up to speed with a Championship double-header against Halifax and Swinton on the horizon.

He said: “The result was a positive one. We are through to the next round and in cup rugby, that’s what it's all about. I don't think we played particularly fantastically, but we did more than enough to win the game and the scoreline reflected that.

“Kells should be proud. They had a real go at us. To a man they gave 100 per cent. They caused us

problems on our fringes, but our main goal was to be in the next round.

“It's disappointing that we were a little off the pace and the intensity of the game. I think if we had performed at a good level or higher, I think it would have been better for us going into the weekend against Halifax and Swinton.

“But I have no doubt that on Friday against Halifax that our attitude and our levels will be at the highest they can possibly be - because they know they’ve got an opportunity to beat a very good team.”
