Naylor hails Roughyeds supporters

OLDHAM’S seven-try, 38-16 defeat of Dewsbury Rams was the Roughyeds’ first win in the second tier since 2005.

Hailing it as a “memorable” day, coach Scott Naylor said it was a big achievement by his squad and one to savour by everyone connected with the club.

Added Oldham’s coach: “A win like is a massive boost and, hopefully will set us up for a season that everybody at the club can enjoy, not least our terrific fans.

“I thank them for turning out on another cold and wet day and for supporting us vocally from start to finish. We’ve got some great fans and I dedicate this win to them.”

A new-look side, with debut-making teenager Jake Bibby at centre, Danny Grimshaw back from injury at half-back and Will Hope in the second-row with Josh Crowley on the bench, led 24-0 at half-time.

In total they scored seven tries, Gareth Owen and Danny Langtree each bagging two with others from Tom Ashton, Michael Ward and Adam Clay.

The win places Roughyeds above Workington, Whitehaven and Swinton Lions, who are still seeking their first victory.

Only one player, prop Phil Joy, required treatment after the game for a dead leg. It is expected to be cleared for the Featherstone game next Sunday.
