Palfrey in the pink

LEWIS Palfrey heads into Sunday's showdown with promotion rivals York City Knights as League One's leading goalkicker and top scorer.

The Oldham captain's seven goals in the 42-30 win against Gloucester gave him 54 for the season - two more than Barrow's Josh Ward.

Palfrey also leapfrogged Ward on points, moving nine ahead to 125, thanks to four tries and a drop goal on top of his 54 successful place kicks.

At home he needs one point against York at Whitebank on Sunday to reach 500 for Roughyeds in his 60 games for the club.

York, meanwhile, are expecting big things of new signing Micky Learmonth, a 20-year-old prop who scored two tries in two appearances for Oldham on dual-reg from Huddersfield Giants early in the season.

He comes from the same stable as Roughyeds loan player Nathan Mason and two more young forwards who have appeared for Scott Naylor on dual-reg - Josh Johnson and Oliver Roberts.

Learmonth had three games for York on loan then negotiated his release from Huddersfield to join York.
