Derby pair are charged

OLDHAM centre George Tyson and Rochdale hooker Ben Moores have been charged with punching by the RFL's match review panel.

They were each given a yellow card by referee Gareth Hewer in the 24th minute of the Oldham-Rochdale derby at Bower Fold last Sunday, which Hornets won 34-24.

Rival players traded punches after former Oldham forward Josh Crowley was bundled into touch by Sammy Gee.

Hewer consulted with his touch judges before producing yellow for Tyson and Moores and then restarting play with a penalty to Oldham.

Both charges are graded 'B' (recommended sanction one to two games), but Moores has an early guilty plea available to him and Tyson hasn't.

The panel also looked at an incident involving Roughyeds hooker Kenny Hughes, who was alleged to have tackled Danny Yates late and with a shoulder charge.

There was no contact with the head, so a penalty to Rochdale was considered enough punishment.

The cases against Tyson and Moores will probably be heard by the independent disciplinary panel next Tuesday, with any suspensions starting with the first round of the KP Championship Shield Super 8s in which Oldham play Sheffield Eagles away and Hornets go to Dewsbury.

The remaining games on Sunday, August 6 (all starting at 3pm) are Batley Bulldogs v Swinton Lions and Bradford Bulls v Toulouse Olympique.

Subsequent fixtures will be announced by the RFL on Monday at the latest.
