LAUDING the sort of gritty, backs-to-the-wall scrap that can move mountains, Scott Naylor wouldn't single out individuals, insisting that this first win in nine outings was down to the fighting spirit of all 17 Oldham players.

It was earned and achieved against a full-time, top-four Championship side by a young Roughyeds' outfit that went into battle without the likes of Scott Turner, Scott Leatherbarrow, Phil Joy, Jack Spencer, Richard Lepori, Joe Burke, Gareth Owen, Danny Grimshaw, Craig Briscoe and Michael Ward.

Said Naylor, as his jubilant men in red and white went over to enjoy a few memorable moments with their fans: "When you're in a tight corner, you've two choices: you either lie down or you fight and scrap for everything.

"To beat a side like Toulouse is an enormous result, first for the boys themselves, then for the club and also for our fantastic supporters.

"I would like to thank the fans, who have stuck with us through thick and thin and who were wonderfully supportive again today.

"As for the players, every single one was outstanding. They gave everything they could for this club and its supporters and they fully deserved this win against a team that's been in the top four all season.

"We've gone through a long, mid-season spell when results went against us, but I've maintained all along that, in many cases, the only things we were missing was the bounce of the ball or a little bit of luck in the right areas of the field.

"We got that today and what a difference it made in a game of tight margins.

"I don't want to single anyone out because the whole team was outstanding and it was teamwork that carried us through. I also thought we got a fair crack off the official.

"Now that we're back to winning ways we've got to crack on, put poor results behind us and start to climb the table."

The club's choice of man of the match was the only one of the 10 forwards used to remain on the pitch for the full 80 minutes - Liam Thompson in the second-row.

The champagne-moment award went to full-back Steve Nield, whose 14th-minute try in only his second senior appearance in two years set the Roughyeds on their way to a memorable win and a precious two points in the battle to stay up.
