Players were to blame - Naylor
Date published: 27 March 2017
A SHELL-SHOCKED Scott Naylor placed the blame for Roughyeds 50-10 hammering at Batley firmly and squarely on the shoulders of the men who wore the jersey.
With an awful performance that was similar in many ways to the one they offered in their 48-0 drubbing at Hull KR a month ago, Naylor's men conceded nine tries.
They were 24-0 down at half-time. It was all over bar the shouting even at that stage.
Said Naylor: "We had worked on certain things all week, but for whatever reason we didn't go out and put them into practice.
"Everyone knows how Batley play on their own ground and what you have to do to try and stop them. We didn't do it and as a consequence Batley scored exactly the sort of tries we knew they would score if we fell short in the plans we had made during the week.
"It was a bad day at the office.
"We've got to be tougher away from home and we've got to have more about us for 80 minutes rather than in very short spells.
"This is a tough Championship division and we can't rely on home form alone.
"We will work on things this week, and talk about a few things as well, and go again against Bradford Bulls at Bower Fold on Sunday."
Batley boss Matt Diskin said:"On the form we showed today we won't fear anybody.
"The beauty of it is that we still have a lot of improvement in us."
