Prices are slashed for Haydock cup battle

IN consultation with Haydock ARLFC, Oldham RL have slashed admission prices for their fourth round Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie at Bower Fold, which will be played on Saturday, March 18, kick-off 2pm.

Adults save £5 on normal prices, concessions save £4 and under-16s save £2 (seats) and £1 standing.

Prices -

SEATS: Adults £12, concessions £10, under-16s £3

STANDING: Adults £10, concessions £8, under-16s £2.

Like all cup-ties it's a split gate so it's all pay and Oldham season tickets are NOT valid.

Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton said: "We've reduced prices to encourage fans of both clubs to turn up and get behind their teams.

"It's an important game for us as well as Haydock, who have done wonderfully well to get this far in the competition with some very impressive wins.

"Bower Fold is available on the Saturday, March 18, so by taking up the option of playing on that day, the players will have an extra day's turn-around ahead of the following Sunday's game at Batley Bulldogs.

"Needless to say, we hope these arrangements, coupled with the reduced admission prices, will attract fans of both clubs to the cup-tie."

Haydock are the first tier-eight team to reach this round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup and they have done it the hard way, beating National Conference Premier Division side Wath Brow Hornets up in Cumbria in round one.

To prove it was no fluke they knocked out 2016 BARLA National Cup winners Thornhill Trojans of Dewsbury at home in round two and then went to London and conquered Wests Warriors, pride of the South and winners of the Harry Jepson Trophy.

To give some idea of the value of that famous Haydock victory, the Londoners had hammered Featherstone Lions 26-0 in Featherstone en route to round three.

Head coach of Haydock, who draw a lot of their players from the St Helens area, is former Saints player Chris Smith.

'BUZZING'

He said: "Haydock is a small community (on the outskirts of St Helens), but the whole place is rugby mad right now and really buzzing.

"To be honest we would have preferred one of the southern League One clubs in the next round - it didn't do us any harm travelling to London - but we'll be going to Oldham to give it our best shot."
