Duo come through unscathed

DANNY Langtree and Danny Grimshaw had more good news last night for Oldham RL coach Scott Naylor, still upbeat after his side's 26-10 first-day triumph against Sheffield Eagles.

Sidelined for a month with a damaged hamstring, and with only one full training session behind him, Langtree bounced back with a stunning performance in which he played the full 80 minutes and scored two tries.

Grimshaw also put in a full shift in his first game since last September, following groin surgery and a severely disrupted pre-season.

'FLYING'
"They were very tired after the match, but they both came through with flying colours and they didn't suffer any reaction," confirmed the Roughyeds team boss after they were checked out by medical staff 48 hours after the game.

Sammy Gee damaged a shoulder and is said to have only a 50-50 chance of being fit for Sunday's game at Featherstone Rovers.

Of those who played against Sheffield he was the only one to require treatment last night.

Nathan Chappell, waiting for his first game in Oldham colours after a knee operation, has a follow-up appointment with his surgeon later today.

Liam Thompson had a scan on his lower back last Friday and the results are expected soon.

Ben Davies, also in rehab for back trouble, is said to be making good progress and should be available either next week or the following week.

Langtree, meanwhile, has topped 100 games for the club since making his debut at the end of the 2012 season when Martin Roden was in caretaker charge following Tony Benson's departure.

The 25-year-old second-rower was only 18 when he arrived at Oldham to play in John Hough's reserve team after leaving academy rugby at St Helens.

With 47 first-team tries to his credit he's close to averaging one in every two games over four seasons - a remarkable record for a second-row forward.

He becomes the 15th player to join the Roughyeds' 100-club behind Neil Roden (296), John Hough (228), Jason Boults (173), Jason Clegg (147), Gareth Barber (138), Gavin Dodd (132), Michael Ward (126), Phil Farrell (124), Lee Doran (112), Jon Goddard (110), Paul O'Connor (108), Danny Guest (104), Phil Joy (103), Joe McNicholas (102).
