So far, so good - Naylor

WITH the first pre-season game little more than three weeks away, Oldham RL boss Scott Naylor is satisfied that preparations are on schedule.

The club's medical team will assess Danny Grimshaw, Nathan Chappell, Jack Spencer and Ben Davies at training tonight, but an upbeat Naylor is happy that his squad will be primed for action by the time they open up against Swinton Lions on Sunday, January 8.

He hasn't ruled out the possibility of adding to a squad that currently numbers 21, but there is nothing pending.

"I'm always on the look-out, but they have to be the right people in the right positions at the right time," said the Roughyeds coach. "To get the numbers right we would probably be looking at bringing in two more, but we always start with a small squad and build from there as and when the need arises."

Naylor's updates on those who are currently in the care of the medics, barring Craig Briscoe who is awaiting an operation, read like this...

GRIMSHAW: He will be back at training tonight after a groin operation, which went well. He will be placed on a specific rehab programme. Hopefully, he will be ready for the Barrow game on January 15 but, if not, he will be right for the Law Cup clash with Rochdale at Bower Fold a week later.

CHAPPELL: Nearing the completion of rehab after minor knee surgery and will be back in full training soon.

SPENCER: Returned to full training on Tuesday after intensive rehab to fix a slight groin strain. He will be checked out tonight for any reaction.

DAVIES: Has had a slight problem with his lower back, which has troubled him previously. The medical team are doing a lot of work on him to rid him of the injury. It doesn't stop him training normally, although certain gym routines are currently out of bounds.
