Livin' la vida Loka

MOMENTUM is definitely building again as Mossley-based psychedelics Brahma-Loka gear up for prestige support slots and a couple of eagerly-awaited new single releases.

The talented and confident four-strong outfit - guitar/vocalist Paddy Neville, guitarist Will Owen, bassist Josh Leach and drummer Ryan Prescott - have steadily built up a good-sized fanbase, many of whom were at their cracking recent show at Bier Keller Live at Tokyo's in Oldham.

The band - initially formed in 2014 - crashed out 45 minutes of hard-hitting and thought-provoking tuneage, while Inspiral Carpets legends Craig Gill and Clint Boon helped make sure it was a night to remember with their popular-as-ever DJ sets.

Support

After the gig the Brahma-Loka lads revealed exclusively to the Chronicle that they're heading off to support vastly popular Dutch rockers De Staat in October, a band who are massive in their homeland and have also toured the world recently with the mighty Muse.

De Staat support dates will take Brahma-Loka initially to the Soup Kitchen in Manchester, then Bristol, Nottingham, London and possibly Glasgow.

Paddy said: "We've been busy this year and we're getting busier. We've had to be a bit patient this year, and play the game I guess.

"We've been working towards this release and the tour of course - we're getting there.

"It was great to be asked to join the De Staat tour. They're huge in Holland and do arenas over there.

"They did one gig recently at the Heineken Centre, and that holds around 20,000 people.

"They are one of our favourite bands, too."

As well as through high-profile appearances, Brahma-Loka will grace the International Festival of Psychedelia in Liverpool on September 23, Sound Control in Manchester on September 30 - where they will support Baby Strange - and the Southsea Fest in Portsmouth 24 hours later.

On top of all that, Brahma-Loka's exciting, high-tempo new single "Noble Savage" is now available to download and purchase, a tune that frontman Neville wasn't shy of trying to describe to potential listeners.

He added: "My interpretation of a noble savage was the queen, and all these politicians who are full of nobility and things like that. I see them as acting like savages, because they treat us like savages with the decisions that they make.

"The chorus line - 'I need a doctor now' - I wrote that because at the time the junior doctors were on strike so I just thought I'd stick that in there.

"It's a very political song, but it's a short banger to be honest and we love it. The song will be available for download through most major music conglomerates, for less than a ham sandwich from Tesco. It's tastier too."

Check the link to download 'Noble Savage' on Brahma-Loka's Facebook page. It is the first of two new tracks - the second of which will be released in a month's time.

Meanwhile, in a potentially, totally exciting new development, Brahma-Loka have revealed that they could return to Bier Keller Live in the new year - as support to fellow Mossley post-punks Cabbage, who really are soaring at present on the national scene.

Neville said: "We believe we'll be back at Tokyo's one day next year with Cabbage headlining.

"We'll tell Cabbage that that is happening."

I would advise you to watch this space.
