Son Primo: working on a NEW EP
MUSIC EXTRA: FIVE years on, the three lads of local indie outfit Son Primo are as enthusiastic about the future of their music as ever.
The band - guitar/vocalist Robby Edgar, bassist AJ Williams and drummer Dave Dickie - are well known on Oldham, Rochdale and Manchester’s circuits and love being part of the exciting local music scene.
The band released nine-track debut album “My Ruin” in spring 2014, but playing live gives the lads the biggest buzz: “For us it’s always about the next gig, especially when you haven’t played the venue before,” said WIlliams.
“We’re supporting Simon Friend of the Levellers soon in Rochdale, and that’s going to be out of the world.
We’ve got some other special gigs coming up too. We’re playing at an Oldham Rocks gig in July, and that’s going to be a really important one for us. ‘Oldham Rocks’ is a great concept; a brilliant platform for local talent, so we’re thrilled we’re part of it.”
Son Primo put hours of work into “My Ruin”, and the three speak proudly of it: “It was well received,” said WIliams. “We still have a way to go to get people to hear about it, but we have had some great feedback.
“It took us so long to write, record and master it, so this year is going to give us more chances to let people know about it.”
The album is still available from iTunes, Amazon Spotify, Deezer and others: “We also have some limited edition copies, individually numbered and signed (try Black Sofa in Oldham’s Yorkshire Street - SS).”
Plans are already in place for a follow-up EP: “We have been back in the studio recently,” said Williams. “We’ve recorded the drums at Dave Flinty’s Shure 5 Studios and they sound amazing.
“We’ve got two tracks down so far, which audiences will be able to hear at our live shows.”
Son Primo plays at the Flying Horse, Rochdale on April 30. The Oldham Rocks appearance is at Jackson’s Pit on July 9.
The band is on Twitter, Facebook and at www.sonprimo.com.
