AMBITION . . . Rachel Webb
MUSIC EXTRA: RACHEL Webb — Rachel Grey as she is now known in the music business — has come a long way since she first ran her fingers across a piano keyboard at primary school, aged six.
But it’s only now that Rachel is starting to believe a successful career in music is very much in her grasp.
Now an accomplished pianist and songwriter - she rehearses and teaches at Dave Flint’s Shure 5 recording set-up in Royton - Rachel has worked hard at her music. After leaving school she played at bars and restaurants to always-appreciative audiences. A break to pursue a career in social work followed, but now Rachel is back on song with new, high-profile management in London.
“I went for two auditions and was eventually selected from around 200 applicants to be signed to a 12-month contract. I’m hoping the first single will be out next month - though other than saying one of the singles is called ‘Pretty Girl’, I can’t reveal much else yet.”
Rachel has enjoyed success in the capital already, and a recent Ediv Music collaboration release alongside Rico Garcia has clocked up more than 10,000 YouTube views in two weeks.
Next up is a dance track — “Ecstasy” — later this month, a brilliant offering with producers Franco Stone and Borna Gasparelo.
“I’ve got collaborations coming out of my ears,” added Rachel. “I’ve just done the one with Rico, who’s Norwegian and I’m in the process of doing another one with him, which is going to be even better. Then I’ve got some work lined up with a guy in America who has written umpteen songs and is absolutely brilliant. There’s a collaboration with Ian Post in the pipeline too, though that’s not recorded yet Ian’s a brilliant producer and such a nice guy. He’s worked with some of the best people around.”
Rachel also has collaborations lined up with four Indian performers: “One, called Codice, is a really big star over there and he’s like their dance equivalent of Calvin Harris I suppose.
“If I am successful in my own right then great, but my passion is for writing. I’m always thinking about songs. Even when I wasn’t doing this for a living, I’ve always written songs, since I was a kid. In fact I’ve got about 500 at home, tucked away in a big box!”
Fans ought to be able to watch her live locally real soon.
