MUSIC EXTRA: GET on your dancing shoes because Stax of Soul is back!
Led by legendary Delph-based frontman Stuart Widdall, the band was big news during a stellar career that lasted more than 20 years from the late 1980s.
After five years with the Soul Amigos, Widdall has resurrected Stax of Soul and the first gig of the second coming - at Audenshaw’s Premier Suite - proved a resounding success.
Widdall said: “We just felt the time was right. Lots of people had been asking about it.”
Stax of Soul is set to play at the Mayor’s Ball at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on February 26. Check out @StaxofSoulUK on Twitter for gig dates.
THE gig diary of Royton guitar aces 5ft Fez is filling up nicely.
After this weekend’s starring appearance at Drew Stansall’s latest hugely popular “Quadrophenia Night” at the Witchwood in Ashton, Matt, Joe and Ross are set for back-to-back headline slots on February 12 and 13.
On the Friday, the lads will pack out the Flying Horse in Rochdale, before returning home to Oldham the night after for the “Revolution Live — Love Spreads” night at Whittles where DJs Dave Sweetmore and Clint Boon will appear as well as fellow local bands Ok Broken and Shadow Palace.
Another “Quad” night follows at the Waterside Arts Centre in Sale on Saturday, February 27, before a prestige support slot alongside the magnificent Sex Pi##ed Dolls has now been booked in for Saturday, March 12, at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester.
GET down to Whittles on Saturday night for another terrific night of rock ’n’ roll. Ace Judas Priest tribute outfit Hellbent Forever are in town, and it’s free entry. It’s also free to get in to Friday’s gig, which sees Preacher hit the stage at the popular King Street venue.
Preacher are an established blues rock trio with a great reputation having performed at major blues events like the Great British Blues Festival in Colne.
