MUSIC EXTRA: raunchy four-piece indie outfit Louie Louie is gearing up for a real breakthrough 2016.

Moorside drummer Paul Limer, Lisbon-born siblings Rita (vocals) and Pedro Faria (bass), and guitarist Tom Pallett have enjoyed a hugely productive 2015, one which has included support slots for Lenny Kravitz in Portugal, the mighty Courteeners in Leeds and Liverpool, and an appearance at the 100 Club on Oxford Street, London.

“Playing in London at that venue was amazing,” said the crystal-clear voiced Rita. “It was almost a spiritual experience for me. “There was just something about the place and it also gave us our first contact, our first reaction really, with a London crowd.”

Pallett, originally from Leicester, had his own favourite — the O2 Academy in Leeds.

He said: “We’ve never had to walk so long to get to the stage either. Maybe that’s when we realised we were getting somewhere. There were guys with earpieces on telling when we were on and things like that. It was great and it was rocking.”

Pallett is confident that 2016 promises plenty, after a somewhat bumpy ride at times this year.

He added: “We’re working hard behind the scenes and there’s certainly some big things in the pipeline.

“Every band hits a peak, then goes back a bit, before thinking about taking things to the next level. That’s what we’re doing now.”

Limer, the former sticks-man with Royton-based Porter’s Forces, added: “There’s a couple of big gigs we haven’t revealed yet, including a London gig in January. We’ll confirm the details of that soon.”

The band also revealed plans for a first recorded single. Parr Street studios in Liverpool beckon early in the New Year.

“We’re going to be releasing a single and accompanying video around February-time,” said Rita.

“It will be a single, with an accompanying video.”
