Making the move from primary ‘pupil’ to secondary ‘student’ is part of the exciting learning journey for children moving from Year 6 into Year 7. At The Radclyffe School we ensure that our new students feel supported, secure and welcome as they embrace ‘The Radclyffe Way’.

We recognise for some children and parents/carers this can be an anxious time and have in place a dedicated, experienced and supportive Induction Team to help you and your child. Our team of professionals are in regular contact with primary schools to make sure each and every child is visited at least once prior to Induction Day. We meet with each child individually and their class teacher, who knows the children really well, so the Induction Team has a holistic view of the pupil before they arrive with us.

Our Student Ambassadors visit the children at their primary schools, working with them to explain their own day-to-day life at The Radclyffe School and address any concerns or worries they may have. Parents/carers are informed at every step of the journey and additional visits are arranged for identified pupils should they require them.
There is a carefully planned Induction Day for pupils to meet their teachers and their Personal Learning Guide, a member of staff who will support them throughout their time at The Radclyffe School. Their Year Manager who will also remain with them throughout their five years here and our professional team of Year 9 Peer Mentors are on hand throughout the day to offer additional support.

A highly successful Summer School Programme is in place to allow pupils to familiarise themselves with the new, larger ‘state of the art’ learning environment, forge new friendships and introduce them to new ways of learning. This experience aims to boost their self-confidence and promote progress even before school starts in September.
All parents/carers are invited to our ‘New Parents Evening’, to support them in preparing their children for this new chapter and reinforce the student-parent-school partnership that encapsulates our school ethos of “Working Together for Excellence”
