OLDHAM/Manchester indie funksters Corella are hoping this weekend's new single and video release for 'Barcelona Girl' will reflect a slightly more casual side to the band while also helping to attract an army of new followers.

The dedicated, hard-working band - Oldham guitarist Jack Taylor, guitar/vocalist Joel Smith, bassist Ben Henderson and drummer James Fawcett - release 'Barcelona Girl' this Friday on iTunes and Spotify, having filmed an exciting accompanying video in the beautiful Catalan city itself.

The single was recorded at Sugar House, but asked about the film project, which took place during a recent four-day trip to Barca, Henderson said: "We just wanted this video to reflect more from our perspective really, so basically we filmed it ourselves.

"Everything we did we had the camera there - we got all the bits and bats. We literally filmed everything - non-stop.

"It's quite a summery, upbeat song we're releasing, quite high-energy too, so hopefully it'll go down well.

"We've played it at a few of the shows and it's been well received, so we needed to get it out. Now would seem to be the perfect time."

Corella are certainly upwardly mobile it would seem at present.

They've been booked on to numerous festivals this summer, including the Blackthorn, Y-Not, Tramlines, Ramsbottom and TruckFest to name a few, while debut single 'Waterfall' went down a treat and their first major headline show in Manchester - at the brilliant Deaf Institute venue - was rammed.

Taylor said of that show: "I don't think it could have gone better to be honest.

"Considering it was our first, proper official headline show in Manchester, it was a really good gig.

"It was packed out, it went off.

"It wasn't far off capacity in there, and the support was great too.

"We had all sorts of people in there that night, and there were stage-dives and everything.

"It's brilliant to see a sea of faces, and to see people you don't even know is the best feeling for me.

"Some were singing the words back to us, so it was all good."

Such is Corella's soaring popularity right now, their management have booked the band a fantastic 'mini' tour, which will consist of six dates up and down the UK during October.

London, Bristol, the Manchester Academy 3 (on October 14), Leeds, Edinburgh and York will all be visited during a month which will no doubt help spread Corella's appeal even further.

Henderson added: "Manchester, Leeds, York and London are the major cities that we always wanted to do. We know we can get an all right crowd in for those shows.

"We looked at Edinburgh and thought we'd like to try and conquer there, but basically we're trying to spread ourselves around.

"We've just got to keep taking things as they come really.

"If we want to grow and keep making our way up the ladder, we are doing the right things at the moment. We want to enjoy it all too.

"Spotify has been a big help to us, because you can see what areas are listening in.

"We wanted to go to places where a lot of people are listening.

Packed

"Obviously if the support is good too, that helps. If a gig is packed anywhere, it's just mint.

"We're excited about the Manchester Academy gig as well. If we can get anywhere near (the 300) capacity there then that would be a big achievement.

"We've already had great support for that gig so hopefully we'll be okay."
