FULL-back Joseph Mills has swapped Oldham for Australia after sealing a move to crack A-League side Perth Glory.

Left-sided player Mills, who has racked up nearly 180 career appearances for seven different clubs in England’s second and third tiers, has penned a two-year deal with the Glory.

The 26-year-old, released by Athletic boss John Sheridan at the end of last term, had been interesting Sky Bet League one rivals Bury.

However, he will join a formidable squad for next season, which also includes former Socceroos quartet Rhys Williams, Adam Taggart, Shane Lowry and Chris Herd — all of whom have linked up with Perth since January.

“I’ve enjoyed playing in England so far and had some very successful moments. This was just an opportunity that is something I couldn’t turn down,” Mills said.

“It’s a great club that wants to accomplish things, and I want to be a part of that.”

Just like Williams, Taggart, Lowry, Herd and even star striker Andy Keogh, Mills also has a family connection to the city — a recurring theme in Perth’s recent recruitment work.

Mills’ older brother has lived in Perth for the past five years.

“He has always told me about the city and how it’s a great place to live,” he said.

“I don’t know any of the current players, but have played against a few of them in England and have run into Andy Keogh a few times over summer while on holiday.”

Mills is a product of the famed Southampton academy, once roomed with Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott and made his senior debut for the Saints at just 18 years of age.

Meanwhile, back home, Athletic have confirmed a second pre-season friendly fixture.

They will host Preston on Tuesday, July 19 (7pm kick-off).

Athletic are also due to host Huddersfield on Saturday, July 16.

ROCHDALE boss Keith Hill is being linked with a move away from Spotland.

Charlton have reportedly expressed an interest in Hill — but Blackburn remain in pole position for the Dale boss.

Rovers are thought to be slow in pushing through a deal, and that has opened the door for the Addicks to enter the mix.

Bolton-born Hill (47) has had two spells in charge of Rochdale, as well as a stint with Barnsley.

He has twice guided Rochdale to promotion from League Two.
